Barekamavan is a village located in the Tavush province of Armenia, 187 km from Yerevan and treacherously close to the Azeri border. Home to 400 at-risk villagers of which 33 are youth (in 1976, there were 330 youth), seniors live on pensions and working age adults have limited to no income-generating opportunities prompting many to emigrate elsewhere. Though economically and geographically disenfranchised, a promising agricultural asset for Barekamavan is its fertile land, which inspired the development of the Greenhouse Project.
