We invite you to participate in the
3rd Annual “Status of Armenian Communities Living in the Unites States” Conference. The interdisciplinary conference will bring
together researchers, educators and community groups to explore social,
cultural and psychological areas related to Armenians living in the United
States.

The Conference will be on April 12, 2008 at California State
University, Los Angeles.

The deadline for submission is February 21, 2008.
¨
The Call for Participation seeks the sharing of studies and
experiences by educators, researchers, social service providers and students to
further increase our understanding of the present Armenian community -- in
psychology, social work and related fields. Participants may present
papers, literature reviews or hold symposia and roundtable discussions.

Refer to the Submission Guidelines section for abstract and
proposal guidelines. Indicate preferred method of presentation: oral paper,
symposia, poster or roundtable.

Forum for Armenian Cultural and Social Studies (FACSS), in partnership with
California State University, Los Angeles, School of Social Work and the
Armenian Social Work Caucus, invite you to submit a proposal for presentation
at the Third Annual “The Status of Armenian Communities Living in the United
States” Conference. If you are an educator, administrator, researcher, student,
or practitioner - in the fields of social work, psychology, child development, sociology
or a related field, take advantage of this professional opportunity to be a
presenter at this critical and timely conference.
Understanding the Status of Armenian Communities in
the United States
Through the lens of
psychology, sociology, child development and social welfare is the theme of the
2008 Interdisciplinary Conference. This theme will be reflected in the
presentations. Proposals should be relevant for social work/social welfare,
psychology, child development, sociology, ethnic studies or in the education of
the stated fields.
There
are three types of juried Call for Participation presentation formats:
Authors
must choose one of the three presentation formats under which to submit. The
Conference Abstract Review Committee will make the final decision on which
format best suits accepted presentations and within the space available.
Criteria for submission and acceptance of proposals are the same for the five
presentation formats.
Oral
Sessions
Each
paper will be allotted 20 or 30 minutes for both presentation, and question and
answer period. The conference sponsors will provide a laptop, LCD projector and
screen upon request.
Poster
Sessions
Poster
sessions will be in a separate hall. There will be no audio/visual equipment
allowed in poster sessions.
Roundtable
Sessions
Roundtable
sessions for both general papers and symposia receive 60 minutes. Roundtable
sessions are designed to facilitate interactive discussions and are limited to
10 participants seated around a table. Poster boards may be used.
PROPOSAL
TYPES
Either
an empirical, a conceptual, or an innovation paper may be submitted for
presentation. All are of equal status. All materials must be APA format.
Empirical
Paper
An
Empirical Paper is research in fields of social work/social welfare,
psychology, sociology, child development and related areas on the findings of
either a quantitative or qualitative research study about Armenians living in
the United States. Information on the nature of the sample, methodology, and
findings must be included. Papers in this category must report on either
completed studies/projects or long-term research efforts where a substantial
body of data has been developed at the time of proposal submission.

criteria used in judging this type of proposal are:
Conceptual
Paper
A
Conceptual Paper is conceptual framework on social work/social welfare,
psychology, sociology, child development or related fields provides a series of
logically developed and well-substantiated ideas built upon a theoretical base
that are of relevance to social work/social welfare and/or social work
education.
The
criteria used in judging this type of proposal are:
Innovation
Paper
An
Innovation Paper is innovation in social work/social welfare, psychology,
sociology, child development or related fields provides a way to share new and
creative ways of administering and delivering services. Presentations
will need to focus on a "how to" approach that would prepare
participants to implement and evaluate the innovation in their own settings.

criteria used in judging this type of proposal are:
Literature Review
The
2008 Interdisciplinary Conference offers an opportunity to present relevant and
comprehensive literature reviews about Armenian communities living in the
DISSERTATION and THESIS
The
2008 Interdisciplinary Conference provides an opportunity for individuals who
have completed doctoral dissertations or thesis to submit abstracts of their dissertation
or thesis for presentation. Abstracts will be judged on the basis of the
overall quality of research or the treatment of theoretical or methodological
issues in the dissertation or thesis. Dissertation or thesis proposals should
present a clear statement of the problem of interest to the field of study, a
carefully explicated and appropriately focused methodology and a summary of the
principal findings/conclusions. Abstracts dealing with theoretical and
methodological issues should clearly state the issue and argue the resolution.
Abstracts must meet the criteria for the Proposal Types as specified above.

Submission
of proposals for the 2008 Interdisciplinary Conference will be handled through
email. Submit to agbuhyegeen@gmail.com. All parts of a proposal
will be collected online. No paper submissions will be accepted.

No
authors may be added after submission of an abstract.
PROPOSAL REVIEW PROCESS
All
proposals will be pre-screened in terms of their compliance with the procedural
guidelines. The conference sponsors will notify authors about proposals that
fail to comply, with an indication of the problem encountered. Non-compliant
proposals will not be considered for presentation at the 2007 Interdisciplinary
Conference. Proposals that successfully pass the pre-screening process will be
sent for review to the Conference Abstract Review Committee.
NOTIFICATION OF PROPOSAL
STATUS
Emails
about the status of proposals will be sent to all Primary authors on March 12,
2007 If the proposal is accepted for presentation, no changes from the original
submission may be made regarding the order of authors for the presentation.
PRESENTATION
SUBMISSION
If
your abstract is accepted for presentation, you are required to submit your
completed paper or PowerPoint presentation to the conference sponsors no later
than March 24, 2008. Your materials may be included in a CD-ROM
distributed on-site to all attendees, or posted on our website, unless you
indicate refusal of publication in writing to the conference sponsors at agbuhyegeen@gmail.com.
