FAQs

1. What is the purpose of this weekend?

The weekend is designed to honor the AGBU’s continuing commitment and dedication to young Armenians. We also believe it will be an excellent way for young Armenians to strengthen old friendships, create new ones, and network professionally. One of the goals of the weekend is to develop a new, international network of young Armenians that reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the Armenian community.

2. Is this event a reunion for AGBU Youth Programs?

No, next year the AGBU New York Summer Intern Program will celebrate their eagerly anticipated 15th Anniversary celebrations on July 4th weekend 2002. For more information please email nysip@agbu.org. The Camp Nubar Alumni committee will announce upcoming events in the near future.

3. Do I have to be an AGBU member or an alumnus to attend?

Absolutely not! If you have had the opportunity to participate in AGBU programs in the past, this weekend will be a wonderful way to strengthen your ties with the organization. However, if you are unfamiliar with the AGBU, the weekend will be a great opportunity to learn more about what we do for young Armenians and our community as a whole. What better way to broaden your horizons than to celebrate such a significant occasion in one of the most exciting cities in the world!

4. For which age groups is this weekend most appropriate?

As the weekend is aimed to encourage networking among young professionally aged individuals and the legal drinking age in New York State is 21 we ask that only persons 21 and over plan to attend.

5. What do I need to know about travel arrangements?

New York City is a popular summer destination for many travelers and we urge you to make your travel arrangements quickly. You can begin by reserving a room at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan. The phone number for the hotel is (212) 883-1234. When you make your reservation, be sure to mention that you are with the Armenian General Benevolent Union.

If you plan on flying into New York, you will need to book your airline ticket independently. New York City is conveniently accessible from three major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport, La Guardia Airport, and Newark International Airport. There is transportation directly into New York City from all three airports.

6. When should I expect to arrive and leave New York?

We have scheduled events from the evening of Thursday July 19 through the afternoon on Sunday July 22. However, if you have the time, and especially if you’re coming from a great distance, we suggest you take this opportunity to explore all that New York City has to offer! You might consider extending your stay to enjoy an exciting vacation in New York.

7. How can I place an item in the Gala booklet?

Placing an item in the Gala booklet is a great way to show your support for the AGBU and will serve as a lasting reminder of the weekend. Please contact Hrag Vartanian, by email agbuwb@agbu.org or by phone (212) 319-6383 x.133, if you would like more information.
