This issue of Ararat celebrates a unique period in Armenian-American history, the mid-century era of summer resorts to which East Coast Armenian families flocked to fully live out their national and ethnic heritage. As one of the contributors remarks of the hotel her father owned, “It was a safe haven where people could have fun and still experience a sense of family. They could celebrate their ethnicity, you know, let it all hang out. Something they couldn't do back home during the ‘50s and ‘60s.
